The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or TRAI has implemented a regulatory refund for cable and DTH companies from February 2019. These rules are supposed to make it easier for the customers to choose what they wish to watch and not what cable TV operator bundles aka 'packs'. However many of us have found the mere regulation confusing. What do the new rules say?
The new regulatory tariff introduced a monthly Network Capacity Fee(NCF) to the cable TV bill which is Rs 130 for 100 channels. The NCF in total is Rs 130 along with 18% GST, which is Rs 153. For those who choose more than 100 channels in a monthly pack, there will be extra NCF of Rs 20 for a slab of 25 channels. So if you choose 150 channels in total, then your NCF is Rs 130+20+20 = Rs 170 + 18 per cent GST brings it to Rs 200. One can also add paid channels to their list of 100 or more channels. It will be Rs 130 (NCF) + price of paid channels + 18% GST.
